There's a growing threat to the global web of subsea fibre optic cables. The backbone of the communications revolution, cables transmit 95 per cent of the world's data, from emails and banking transactions to encrypted military secrets.

 

They account for $10 trillion dollars a day in financial transactions. There is now a titanic underwater struggle between China and the United States for world supremacy and the winner will achieve economic and military dominance for decades to come. Cable infrastructure is such an important piece of the geopolitical chessboard and it's playing out in the Asia Pacific region.
