War of Innocents tells the story of Japan's "15-year War", with a focus on Japanese civilians living on the mainland. From the invasion of Manchuria to Japan's near-annihilation at the conclusion of the Pacific War, the History Channel original documentary tracks the empire's rapid rise as a budding democracy to its devastating final days. Told by experts as well as those who lived through it, the documentary unravels how civilians were trained and persuaded to lay down their lives for an unwinnable war by a mix of religion, patriotism, entertainment, and propaganda.
