Reviews:

  • Don't miss Kyrgyz filmmaker Bekzat Pirmatov's captivating story of Aurora, a relic from the Soviet era which doubles as a sanatarium and a spa resort due to the stunning natural landscape that surrounds it. Selected as Kyrgyzstan's entry for Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards, the film weaves observations of peculiar elements with social commentary, providing insight into present-day Kyrgyzstan.
  • Pirmatov shows remarkable talent in non-linear, expressionistic storytelling.
  • A unique and dazzling black comedy from Kyrgyzstan….. A noteworthy film of the year that tactfully intertwines the influx of Chinese capital, ignorance of woman’s rights, corruption, poverty and other sub-texts.
  • Kyrgyzstan has selected Bekzat Pirmatov's Aurora as its submission for the best international feature film category at the 2020 Oscars.

Aurora is Pirmatov's debut feature. The film premiered at last year's Busan International Film Festival.

  • Aurora is Kyrgyzstan's 12th submission in the best international feature category since the country became independent in 1991. None of the previous submissions has been nominated for the Academy Awards.
