Russian authorities have a suspected whistleblower kidnapped on German soil - this provocative breach of the law leads to a political nerve game in which "The Diplomat" in the Foreign Office supports. Natalia Wörner, aka Karla Lorenz, is personally very touched by the explosive case: the kidnapped man played by Beat Marti is a childhood friend whom the Russian side accuses of “murder in St Petersburg”. Now she has to find out what is true about it. Director Roland Suso Richter staged the exciting detective story in the style of a modern political thriller. Spectacular filming locations such as a former Cold War radar station also give the sixth film in the series a visually powerful setting.
A man with his six-year-old daughter from St. Petersburg lands at BER Airport, fearing for his life: the German-Russian journalist Kolja Petrov (Beat Marti), a childhood friend of Karla Lorenz (Natalia Wörner). Instead of the diplomat, who knows nothing about his visit, a Russian one awaits him and little Manya (Rena Harder).Intelligence Command. Before the kidnappers catch him, Kolja makes a data stick disappear and hides Manja in a rental car. When the police discover the girl shortly thereafter, there is no trace of the kidnapped person. However, a telephone number that Kolja wrote on Manja's arm leads to Karla. Although she is surprised to hear from him in this way after a long radio silence, she takes his daughter in with her. While her boyfriend Jan (Alexander Beyer) takes care of the girl, Karla supports the crisis team, including BND officer Weimer (Anna von Haebler). It is found out that Kolya is being held in the Russian embassy. When Secretary of State Wagner (Thomas Heinze) puts pressure on foreign policy, the Russian state media broadcast a surprising explanation: Petrov is said to have fled because he left his wife in St. Petersburg murdered. Karla, who has known the suspect since childhood, thinks this is an excuse. In fact, he had evidence of Russian influence through their secret services on important political elections in Germany, which is supposed to be covered up...
